Who is to Blame?

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/michaelprice/6-reasons-why-we-must-sto_b_5520170.html

The article above gives six reasons why we need to stop blaming teachers for the broken education system. They’re right too- teachers are not to blame for the system we have today. Students, parents, society- we are all to blame. If we really want to solve this problem, we are all going to have to come together. Society and parents needs to put less pressure on students to succeed. Students need change the way they look at school from a prison where they’re forced to do what they’re told to a place where they can find and develop their passions, both academically and non academically. The system won’t change unless we all change.

Solutions?

What have people been doing to try to solve the problem of the broken education system? Below, I have a link to an article that describes the Race to the Top program which was authorized by Obama in 2009. The article goes into the details of the program and what its effects are, six years later.

Famous People

  • Bill Gates
  • Steve Jobs
  • Mark Zuckerberg
  • Oprah Winfrey
  • Steven Spielberg
  • Tiger Woods
  • Michael Jordan
  • Michael Jackson
  • Socrates
  • Plato
  • Aristotle

None of these people have higher education degrees, and they all turned out just fine. So will you. School is important, but being educated is more important. Find what you’re good at, find what you love to do, hope that they’re the same thing, and become educated in it. Make it your craft. Make it your passion. And finally, make an impact.

Divergent Thinking

Studies have shown that as when we are young, almost all of us have a skill called divergent thinking. This is the ability to think of multiple answers to a certain question, and to interpret questions in different ways. But they also say that as we get older, this skill diminishes. Let’s see if they are right. How creative are you? Click on this link to find out!!

Introduction

My name is Marc and I will be using this site as a part of a project for my Rhetorical Arts class. This blog will act as a platform upon which anyone can share their ideas on what they think is the best way to change the high school system for the better. The goal behind my posts on this site will be to start the conversation by informing the audience about the way the high school system is functioning today based on statistics and my personal experience.
